Hand coloured engraving of ‘The Wrestling Champion of England, Abraham Cann, Who challenges all the World for 100 sovereigns. Height, 5ft 8 1/4. Weight 12 stone 7lb. age 30.’ Further inscribed “Drawn from Nature and on stone by Geo. Rowe. Printed by R. Simonan, and published by Geo Rowe No.38, Paris Street, Exeter, Aug 10th 1826.”

370 by 230mm (14½ by 9 inches).

Coming from a wrestling family, Cann fought in London in 1826 beating James Warren. He was champion of Devonshire at the time when he challenged James Polkinghorne, the champion of Cornwall in 1826. The match was a draw.
