In 1977 I graduated from the Sotheby’s Works of Art course and this lead to a further three years working in their Works of Art department in London. In those days the department dealt with everything from 14th-19th century European works of Art, Russian icons, watches, miniatures, European ceramics and objects of vertu; a broad base for me to build on and learn my craft. During my time with Sotheby’s I was fortunate to be involved in the landmark sales of the Rothchild collection at Mentmore and the renowned collection of medieval art, old master and modern paintings and porcelain assembled by Robert von Hirsch.

Having left Sotheby’s I started to deal in antiquarian book sales and dealing across the board. Books, ephemera and manuscripts has been a continued interest from that time.

In 1998 I added 19th century photography to my dealing arm and continue to buy in that area. In recent years I have also been dealing in 20th century paintings, mainly British figurative art from 1910-1970. When I started, auctions were a real time experience where you could meet other dealers and collectors. Now you are lucky to get a printed catalogue.

I have exhibited at various shows over the years including Paris Photo, the British Art fair at the Mall galleries and at the Saatchi gallery. Also at numerous photography, book and art fairs in London. Now I trade from my gallery space in Norfolk.
