Armstrong was a world boxing champion. He was one of the few fighters to win in three or more different divisions: featherweight, lightweight and welterweight. He defended his welterweight title 19 times. In 2007 ‘The Ring’ ranked him as the second greatest of the last 80 years. He is currently ranked by BoxRec as the 12th greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time.

Roderick was British champion at both welterweight and middleweight and European champion at welterweight. He travelled to America and beat Jake Kilrain twice among others. In this fight he lost the contest on points.
