photography works on paper works of art

Pierre Spake specialises in photography, mainly from the 19th century with diversions into the 20th and 21st centuries. We also deal in manuscripts, works on paper and curious and esoteric antique objects.

In 19th photographs we concentrate on travel, exploration, portraiture and the historical, with a strong emphasis on the fine art image. We have a wide range of photographs including India in the 1850s, Pre-Raphaelite images and photographic curiosities. Images from the 20th century and beyond include studies of artists by Eddy Novarro, travel and topography and the work of the enlightened amateur.

With ephemera, objects and curios, our focus is on the historical and items of individual expression. A life-size wax model of a foetus, the preserved body of the smallest bull terrier ever bred, housed in its original Victorian glass dome, and a pardon from deportation signed by Queen Victoria for a 9 year old girl are but a few of the varied and fascinating items.
