Lemoine, Henry Modern Manhood; or, the Art and Practice of English Boxing.
London, Printed for the editor, and sold by J. Parsons, No 21, Pater-noster-row; A. Cleugh No 23, Ractclif-Highway; J. Sudbury, Tooley-Street; and H. Lemoine, No 56 Crispin-Street, Spitalfields, and No 28, Minories February 1788, leaves 208 by 123mm (8¼ by 4¾ inches).
8vo, [i] half-title, [ii] blank, folding frontispiece, [iii], title page, [iv] blank, [v]-x preface, (page vi misnumbered iv), [xi - xiv) introduction (misnumbered v-viii), [15]-88, with 29 misnumbered 26, final leaf dated Feb 4th, and advertising a reissue of Parkyn’s Inn play. This conforms in the main to Hartley 1214, except that he notes the title as “British” boxing [which may be a misreading on his part]. The final leaf of text notes that publication was delayed for a week awaiting the proposal of another contest between Humphreys and Mendoza but nothing had transpired.
NW 1937 pp52 describing an edition of Lemoine of 1786 with no illustration, but naming the author as Lemoine and implying a copy exists with Lemoine’s name and specific about date as well. RH 1214; PM 8; NW 12 ; Magriel 8; PS
