Brian May and Elena Vidal of The London Stereoscopic Company Ltd, have researched the photographic output of T R Williams extensively and write on this image, one of the First Series photographs:
The "Cock and Fox" scene is one of TRW's truly unforgettable images. The beauty and perfection of one of these cards, viewed simply as an object, is something to behold, especially if the images have survived in good condition. This is often the case, since TRW was a master of his chemistry, and his images are remarkably resistant to the ravages of time. But the view is even more exciting seen in stereo; the composition, the lighting, the clarity, and the perfection of the process, all combine to make a three-dimensional space full of sharply defined life and tension.
This group of photographs reflects the evolution of TRW’s photographic career as a stereo photographer. From the origins of his first artistic compositions to the images taken by Royal Command, these views offer a remarkable overview of the different subjects approached by Williams, encompassing the technical evolution of stereoscopic photography during the first half of the 1850s.
