In 1868, the Revd. Dodgson had moved rooms in Christ Church College Oxford in the hope that a photographic studio could be built alongside. It took four years for the college to grant permission, but by October 1871 it was finished. He also had a separate dackroom in the stair-well nearby. The studio was to be the only location (bar a few excursions) where Carroll practised photography for the foloowing 8 years. On 26th June 1875 he took a small group of photographs of the Kitchin children ‘Xie, Herbert, Hugh and Brook’ enacting scenes from the the story of St George and the dragon, including his one of Brook as St George.
